About Us

"Helping teenage girls to spread their wings and fly."

Be a Butterfly is a non-profit organization, incorporated in the state of Florida, dedicated to promoting a positive self-image and educating teenage girls on such issues as sex, alcohol and drugs, physical and emotional abuse and relationships. The goal of Be a Butterfly is to provide an online informational and educational web site that will provide positive role models through the lives of five diverse teenage girls. Teenage girls need role models and mentors and the web site will be there for them to help them deal with everyday life issues.

Be a Butterfly has obtained the web domain of beabutterfly.com to host the web site. The web site will have pictures of the five girls, known as Butterflies, along with biographical information and e-mail addresses. The Butterflies will be available to registered members to answer questions and provide advice on issues that teenage girls may be uncomfortable discussing with their parents. The Butterflies will have professional resources and advisors available to them to assist in providing advice, accurate information and suggesting other resources.

Each Butterfly will maintain an online diary that will be available for members to be able to read about the Butterflies' lives. This will enable members to feel like they know the person they are getting advice from. The web site will also include a chat room with live chat sessions with gynecologists, psychiatrists, and other resources at scheduled times. Members will also have access to a bulletin board so girls can communicate and ask each other for advice. There will also be a links page to other online resources.

Be a Butterfly will carefully screen and choose five girls between the ages of 14 and 19 to serve as spokespersons for the organization. The Butterflies will be chosen based upon their ability and desire to hold themselves out as positive role models. The Butterflies will tour middle schools, high schools and with other organizations dedicated to young women, presenting programs designed to educate and help teenage girls build a positive self-image. These programs will be prepared with the input of the Be a Butterfly organization as well as professional advisors in relevant fields. Information will be available at the programs to direct teenage
girls to resources in their community.

Be a Butterfly is in the early stages of its development. The organizers are dedicated to developing a unique and vital resource for teenage girls across the country. The organization has reached a critical point in its development in that further resources are needed to fund the creation of the web site content and advise the organization on sponsorships, educational content and the recruitment of the Butterflies. The organization will also require assistance in the legal and financial aspects involved in running a non-profit organization and the
presentation of educational information to the public.
